Angus Taylor congratulates Wollondilly and Wingecarribee Local Sporting Champions
Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor has congratulated eight young sportspeople from the Wollondilly and Wingecarribee regions on receiving $500 grants to help with the costs of competing.
Mr Taylor congratulated the successful applicants at a presentation ceremony in Picton recently.
“The money can be put towards equipment, fees, uniforms, training or transportation. We have a wealth of young sporting talent in Hume and it is great to see so many kids representing themselves and their town at a state or national level.”
Mr Taylor said the grants were available to young people between 12 and 18 years of age who competed in state or national titles and who needed to travel more than 250km (return) to take part in their chosen sport.
Recipient 16 year old Cody Benson of Lakesland in NSW will join his friend and team mate Adam Campbell as they participate in the NSW Indigenous Under 17 competition for rugby league. They will also travel to France and Italy later this year as part of an Indigenous Youth Tour.
Mr Taylor congratulated the following successful applicants: Verity Evans, Wingello (2015 Australian Mountain Biking Championships), Haylee Hoffmeister, Wilton (2015 Australian Junior Indoor Cricket Championships), Bailey Dickinson, Cawdor (15 years Boys Cricket Championships), Cody Benson, Lakesland (NSW Indigenous Under 17 Rugby League), Liam Sutton, Buxton (NSW PSSA Touch Championships), Phoebe Johnson, Medway (Under 16 National Championships Basketball), Georgia Genner, Yerrinbool (Pacific School Games Basketball) and Nicholas Smith, Bundanoon (2015 National Cyclocross Championships).
Applications for funding under Round 2 2015-16 of the Local Sporting Champions grants programme close on 31 October 2015. http://www.ausport.gov.au/participating/local_sporting_champions
