Angus Taylor congratulates Goulburn and Taralga Local Sporting Champions
Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor has congratulated six young sportspeople from the Goulburn region for each receiving a $500 grant under the Federal Government’s Local Sporting Champions programme.
Mr Taylor congratulated the successful applicants at a presentation ceremony in Goulburn recently.
“We have a great number of incredibly talented sporting stars in the Hume electorate, and with that talent comes a significant time and monetary commitment from parents,” Mr Taylor said.
“This grant goes some way to helping meet the costs - for equipment, fees, uniforms, training or transportation - for young people who have represented themselves and their town at a state or national level.”
Recipient Annabel Croker from Taralga received funding for participation in the Australian Under 15 National Hockey Championships, along with Jacob Morrison from Goulburn for the Under 18 National Hockey Championships. James Finch also from Goulburn received his grant for participation in the NSW Combined High Schools Rugby Union competition.
Also awarded grants in this round were Georgia Noack from Goulburn, to attend the Under 16s Australian Junior Basketball Championships and Goulburn cyclists Callum Emmerton and Zach St Vincent. Callum and Zach both competed last month in the NSW Junior Road Championships in Tamworth.
More than 20 young sportspeople from Hume were awarded $500 grants under the Local Sporting Champions Round 1 programme for 2015, with another round to come later this year. For more information go to http://www.ausport.gov.au/participating/local_sporting_champions
