Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor is encouraging employers and employees whose jobs and businesses have been impacted by the coronavirus to access the Government’s $130 billion historic wage subsidy.

“The JobKeeper Payment will provide millions of eligible businesses and their staff with the means to get through this crisis,” Mr Taylor said.

“This is a historic payment and is designed to keep employers and employees connected so that when the economy comes back and businesses start again; the workforce is also there ready to go.”

“There are many businesses in Hume that have been forced to close their doors or who are doing it tough. Those that have experienced a reduction in revenue of 30 per cent or more since 1 March 2020 are eligible to apply for the JobKeeper Payment.”

“I would also encourage employees who may have lost their jobs or who’ve been laid off during this period, to get in touch with their employers to see if they are eligible to receive this payment.”

“Over recent weeks the Government has announced unprecedented levels of support for businesses, families and individuals and will continue to monitor the situation closely.”

Eligible employers include businesses structured through companies, partnerships, trusts and sole traders. Not for profit entities, including charities, will also be eligible.

Full time and part time employees, including stood down employees, would be eligible to receive the JobKeeper Payment. Where a casual employee has been with their employer for at least the previous 12 months they will also be eligible for the Payment. An employee will only be eligible to receive this payment from one employer.

Eligible employees include Australian residents, New Zealand citizens in Australia who hold a subclass 444 special category visa, and migrants who are eligible for JobSeeker Payment or Youth Allowance (Other).

Self-employed individuals are also eligible to receive the JobKeeper Payment.

Eligible businesses can apply for the JobKeeper payment online and are able to register their interest at ato.gov.au.
